Follow up to Coal Power & EVs

As you may have read the study by researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, the University of Minnesota and Tsinghau University in Beijing received widespread media coverage mostly telling us how bad, dirty, polluting electric cars are – WTF!!!!

Of course with all these sensational headlines (meant of course to sell something or promote a vested interest) when you delve behind the headline things aren’t quite as they seem.  Seems that EVs are the good, clean, zero local emissions vehicles we all know them to be.  As in my last post I made the point that over time the electric grids globally are getting cleaned up – as they get cleaner so any emissions caused by charging EV’s become less.  That will never happen with petrol/diesel based vehicles.

Here’s an update on that research from our friends at EV World who spoke directly with one of its authors, Chris Cherry:  http://evworld.com/currents.cfm?jid=229

Just to keep the effects of vehicle pollution in perspective (alarming perspective that is) click on the following link to find out the societal costs of exhaust emissions in our cities: http://www.myelectriccar.com.au/improved-health/
