Lightning Car Company UK is currently taking orders for its superbly styled GT sports with delivery anticipated in 2010. These are handcrafted machines with the drive system power generated at the wheel.
The Lighntning uses Hi-Pa Drive™ which integrates motor and drive electronics in one single unit. These lightweight and ultra powerful motors don't add significant extra unsprung weight and are therefore ideal in that position.
There are no gearboxes, differential, axle, drive shafts or propshafts thereby eliminating mechanical complexity. Like many other electric vehicles, the Lightning incorpoates Regenerative barking.
Lightning has chosen battery technology NanoSafe™ from US company Altairnano Inc. unlike most other EVs which use Lithium Ion. There are no toxins or heavy metals used in NanoSafe™ batteries reinforcing the environmental aspects of the vehicle. Click here for the Lightning website.
