plugConversion Process

This Mazda 2 conversion was carried out by the EV Shop in Balcatta. As can be seen from the pictures the car has sacrificed the rear seats for the battery pack. This is what owner Steve Rubeck wished for as the rear seats were unnecessary and this arrangement provides good handling and a range of over 100kms.

This Mazda 2 is a 2008 manual model converted from new and in beautiful condition. Steve had rubber strips put along the door areas as protection from parking dings. The lines follow the contours of the window and blend in beautifully with the vehicle's lines.

Having removed the petrol engine, fuel system, cooling system, exhaust etc. the motor and controller and other components were installed in the engine comparment. The Thundersky lithium batteries were installed where the rear seats had been located. Although losing the back seats the boot space was not compromised.

More pics and information on this conversion can be viewed at this link on the the Australian Electric Vehicle Association's website.
